Why Most People Prefer Behind the Ear Hearing Aids

If you are hearing impaired, there are many different choices that you can make when it comes to using a hearing aid. There are many different hearing aids, there are some that fit into the ear and then there are some that fit completely into the ear canal. The hearing aids that fit into the ear canal may seem to you like they are the most popular hearing aids used because of cosmetic reasons - however, the most popular hearing device is the behind the ear style aid.

In case you are unaware of what the behind the ear hearing aids are, they are made of an ear mold which is supposed to fit into the ear that is accompanied by a small tube that connects the ear mold straight to the hearing aid. The tubing that is used on the hearing aid is referred to as the tone hook. Most hearing aids have an off and on control, a battery compartment and a control switch for the volume. There is also a microphone located at the top of the hearing aid on most of them and the sounds are basically sent to the ear via the tubing when the ear mold is fitted into the ear.

Most of the time, when children need to be fitted for hearing aids, they are fitted for behind the ear hearing aids. The main reason that children are fitted for behind the ear hearing aids is because they are not as delicate as the other types of hearing aids. They are also preferred because the children will not have to have yet developed fine motor skills needed in order to put a hearing aid in or to operate one. Most of the time, with the behind the ear hearing aids, the controls are big enough so that you can manage them nicely.

However, there are some children that do have a couple of problems with the behind the ear aids although they are mostly minor problems. One complication that children have with the behind the ear hearing aids is that the ear canal changes in the size and shape over time as the child grows and because of that, the child will have to be fitted twice a year. However, you should take note that this is also the case with other styles of hearing aids too. The behind the ear devices are also small enough so that the children may have a time trying to keep track of them when they are not wearing them. The most prevalent problems that relate to the behind the ear hearing aids are that the children's ears may not be large enough to hold the hearing aid. If you get correct fittings, you shouldn't have to worry about this. If this doesn't work, you can always try the Huggy device.

One of the good things about behind the ear aids is they are a little larger than the other devices that are worn in the ear. The behind the ear hearing aids require bigger batteries which means more power as well as more amplification.
